SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND COMPETITIVENESS
Economic development is an essential side of the triangle of sustainability. Thanks to economic development we can work toward greater social well being, greater investment in culture and education, or fully develop elements of inter-generational or inter-territorial solidarity. The key is, perhaps, knowing how to anticipate it, in order to make a rigorous design for the process and be clear about the economic model desired.
At the dawn of the 21st century, the challenge for our productive economy is to increase its capacity to generate value and to specialize in sectors and activities that are technology and knowledge intensive that will allow us to enjoy quality employment. The administration of science, technology, and innovation emerges as a key to this new context.
Extraordinary opportunities will arise that we must know how to take advantage of in order to consolidate new economic dynamics around high value added activities, and also around arenas of social interest such as the arts, leisure or education that, among other elements, serve to stimulate the intellectual heartbeat of society and give rise to the professional development of people with cultural curiosity and skills.
